Hes still inconsistent when it comes to play recognition, and hes also had some hiccups in coverage, but Lee is the Jets most productive draft pick to date. -- Rich CiminiAFC NORTHBaltimore RavensCornerback Tavon YoungThis pick is almost by default because only three of the 11 players from this years draft class suited up in Week 5. Young, a fourth-round pick, is the only Ravens rookie to play every game this season. He has been a timely playmaker, with an interception and a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter. Young also returned a blocked extra point for two points. -- Jamison HensleyCincinnati BengalsWide receiver Tyler BoydHonestly, there arent many options to choose from here. First-rounder William Jackson III and fourth-rounder Andrew Billings are on injured reserve, and third-rounder Nick Vigil plays mostly on special teams right now. Boyd has yet to get in the end zone, but he has shown some promise, with 15 catches for 163 yards this season as a slot receiver. The Bengals offense as a whole has been struggling, particularly on third downs and in the end zone, but thats not really a reflection on Boyd. -- Katherine TerrellCleveland BrownsQuarterback Cody KesslerThe Browns have not had a sit-up-and-take-notice rookie, especially since wide receiver and first-round pick?Corey Coleman has been sidelined with a broken hand. Kessler has performed admirably since being thrust into the starting lineup three games into his career because of injuries to Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown. Kessler works like mad to make the best of his abilities; he has completed 66.7 percent of his passes and has improved every week. There was a lot of skepticism when Kessler was drafted in the third round (93rd overall), but hes done what he can to eliminate that skepticism. -- Pat McManamonPittsburgh SteelersDefensive back Sean DavisThe second-round pick has been the most impressive Steelers rookie because of his versatility. He learned slot cornerback and safety in the preseason, which is difficult to do, and despite some early bumps hes held down the starting slot job with 18 tackles and a pass deflection. First-round corner Artie Burns has four pass breakups, but Burns played his most snaps on the year in Week 4 while Davis nursed a minor back injury. The Steelers defense has gotten contributions from their first three picks of 2016, with tackle Javon Hargrave getting valuable snaps inside. Davis has been the most impactful, adding a physical presence to the secondary. -- Jeremy FowlerAFC SOUTHHouston TexansWide receiver Will Fuller VEntering the season, the Texans biggest need was a legitimate threat opposite Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. They have found that in Fuller, who has 20 catches for 327 yards and two touchdowns. The first-round pick also has a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown. While the Texans offense has struggled so far this season, Fuller has definitely been a bright spot. -- Sarah BarshopIndianapolis ColtsSafety T.J. GreenCenter Ryan Kelly, the Colts first-round pick, has started every game this season, but you cant give him the honor because hes part of an offensive line that has given up 20 quarterback sacks through the first five weeks. The Colts thought it would take some time for Green, the teams second-round pick, to adjust to the NFLs speed. It turns out Green is fitting in just fine. Hes been productive enough (eight tackles) that the Colts often have three safeties on the field at the same time -- Green, Mike Adams and Clayton Geathers?-- because they want their best players, no matter the position, on the field as much as possible. -- Mike WellsJacksonville JaguarsCornerback Jalen RamseyHe has been the Jaguars best corner since he stepped on the field and should be a candidate for defensive rookie of the year. Ramsey has matched up against the opponents top receivers (Jordy Nelson, Steve Smith, T.Y. Hilton) and has allowed minimal production. The defensive staff has been impressed by how physical he is, especially in run support. Ramsey talks a big game, too -- just ask Smith -- but his teammates say they dont mind as long as he backs it up on the field. So far he has. -- Mike DiRoccoTennessee TitansRight tackle Jack ConklinWhen they traded back up and used the eighth overall pick on Conklin, the Titans thought they were getting an NFL-ready starter who could help set the tough, physical attitude the team wants up front and overall. He has done that from the start and is a significant part of a line that has played very well, paving room for the NFLs No. 2 running attack, and allowed only seven sacks of QB?Marcus Mariota. -- Paul KuharskyAFC WESTDenver BroncosFullback Andy JanovichAll eight players in the Broncos draft class of 2016 made the roster when the team exited the preseason, and seven of the eight have played in games already this season -- guard Connor McGovern has been a game-day inactive for all five games. The seven rookies who have played have contributed, but the guy who has altered the teams approach has been Janovich. Denver spent just 25 snaps in a two-back set all of last season, but has been in a two-back set at least 22 snaps in four of their games (in each of those games) and at least 11 times in all five games so far. And they have gone that route because Janovich, the Broncos sixth-rounder, has shown them he can contribute as a runner, a receiver and, of course, as a lead blocker. In five offensive touches -- three carries and two receptions -- he already has a touchdown. And hes lined up all over the formation, including out wide and in the slot. As long as he holds up physically, the Broncos will continue to expand his role. -- Jeff LegwoldKansas City ChiefsWide receiver/kick returner Tyreek HillHill has two of the Chiefs seven offensive touchdowns. The Chiefs fifth-rounder also had two kicks that he returned for touchdowns called back because of penalties. Hill is fast, but the one thing he hasnt provided on offense is a big play. Between 11 catches and three rushes, Hills longest play is 13 yards. -- Adam TeicherOakland RaidersStrong safety Karl JosephThe Raiders first-round draft pick did not play a single defensive snap in the teams first two games, but he has been starting since Week 3 and has given the unit a spark after it gave up more than 1,000 yards of total offense against the Saints and Falcons combined. Joseph, who said his surgically repaired right knee is still giving him fits, may be small -- at a generously listed 5-foot-10, 207 pounds -- but he has come up big. He is seemingly always around the ball. Or did you miss his first career interception and first career fumble recovery in the Week 5 win against the Chargers? Every week I go out there, I get a little more comfortable, Joseph said. Im just trusting the process. So far he has yet to have a pass intercepted in 155 attempts, an NFL rookie record. He has thrown four touchdown passes. He has turned the ball over just once, a fumble. He hasnt been perfect, even with the solid stats, but he has been far better than anybody could have expected. -- Todd ArcherNew York GiantsWide receiver Sterling ShepardThis is almost by default. First-round pick Eli Apple has struggled with hamstring and groin injuries, and third-round pick Darian Thompson has been sidelined with a foot problem (although both have impressed when healthy). Shepard has experienced his ups and downs; he has been quiet the past couple weeks vs. Minnesota and Green Bay. But he has the makings of a dominant slot receiver. Hes on pace for 70 catches and 886 yards receiving. The Giants would gladly take that from their second-round pick. -- Jordan RaananPhiladelphia EaglesQuarterback Carson WentzThe No. 2 overall pick has thrown for 1,007 yards in his first four games, with seven touchdowns to one interception. According to ESPN Stats & Information, he is 27-of-32 with three touchdowns against the blitz, which speaks to his level of poise and understanding. Wentz is not only the Eagles top rookie, but has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league through the early part of the season. -- Tim McManusWashington RedskinsLinebacker Sua CravensThis one isnt even close. The second-round pick is the only Redskins rookie playing a lot of snaps with regularity. He has worked exclusively as an inside linebacker in the teams subpackages -- he has yet to work at safety in practice, save for some scout-team work. Cravens makes mistakes, but he plays hard and fast -- and when he makes the right read, his speed results in big plays. He saved the win against the New York Giants with a diving interception; teammates love his energy. -- John KeimNFC NORTHChicago BearsRunning back Jordan HowardHoward, the Bears fifth-round pick out of Indiana, leads the team with 296 rushing yards on 51 attempts (5.8 yards per carry). Howard is a physical runner who gains a large portion of his yards after initial contact. The rookie is also a serviceable receiver out of the backfield, with 12 receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown. Bears general manager Ryan Paces track record of drafting running backs in the midrounds is impressive (see: Jeremy Langford in 2014). -- Jeff DickersonDetroit LionsLeft tackle Taylor DeckerThe Lions most impactful rookie has clearly been the teams first-round pick. He has been at left tackle from the moment he was drafted, and he has continually gotten better as he has more snaps at the position. He has had struggles from time to time, particularly in the second half against Green Bay, but he was a smart pick who continues to grow as he gains more experience protecting QB?Matthew Staffords blind side. -- Michael RothsteinGreen Bay PackersLinebacker Blake MartinezThe fourth-round pick is tied for second on the team in tackles and has helped solidify the middle of the defense. The Packers picked him so they could move Clay Matthews back to outside linebacker, and Martinez has done his part. The Stanford alum also has taken on the responsibility of handling the defensive signals, which coordinator Dom Capers sends to Martinez via the speaker helmet. How many rookies can say theyre handling that job? -- Rob DemovskyMinnesota VikingsTight end David Morgan IIThe Vikings have asked for almost no contributions from their rookie class in their first five victories, but of the eight players in their draft class, Morgan has probably played the most significant role, seeing 38 total snaps primarily as a run-blocking tight end. He missed the Week 5 game with a knee injury, but was back at practice on Tuesday before the Vikings departed for their bye week, and he could return to action on Oct. 23 in Philadelphia. -- Ben GoesslingNFC SOUTHAtlanta FalconsLinebacker Deion JonesJones, the NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for September, has been the most impressive rook for the Falcons, although he missed the Week 5 game with an ankle injury. His speed was evident from day one, and the coaches trusted Jones to coordinate the defense in the middle. His 90-yard pick-six against his hometown Saints on Monday night in Week 3 was arguably the top moment for the Falcons thus far this season. -- Vaughn McClureCarolina PanthersCornerback James BradberryI should put an asterisk by this since he missed the Week 5 Monday night game with a toe injury that also forced him to miss most of the previous weeks game at Atlanta. But when healthy, the second-round pick out of Samford has done well against the opposing teams best receiver. Hes not quite to the?Josh Norman level, but he was on the fast track there before the injury. -- David NewtonNew Orleans SaintsWide receiver Michael ThomasThe second-round pick from Ohio State leads the Saints with 21 catches for 229 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-3, 212-pounder is still technically the No. 3 receiver behind Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead, but the Saints have clearly shown enough trust in Thomas to make him a valuable part of the mix. The sure-handed Thomas caught a critical fourth-down TD pass in their Week 4 comeback win at San Diego, and he leads the team with six targets inside the red zone. -- Mike TriplettTampa Bay BuccaneersCornerback Vernon Hargreaves IIIThe Bucs first-round pick has been on the field as a starter since Week 1, when he played every single defensive snap. Originally, he played both nickel and outside, but he was switched to the outside last week, where his impact and playmaking should be felt even more. He limited Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to five catches for 70 yards on Monday night in Week 5. -- Jenna LaineNFC WESTArizona CardinalsCenter Evan BoehmThe rookie options are slim pickings for the Cardinals, whose first- and third-round picks have been inactive at some point since Week 2. First-round pick DT Robert Nkemdiche played in Week 1 and hasnt played since -- and he doesnt have an injury. Third-round pick CB Brandon Williams started the first two weeks and then was demoted, and was inactive in Week 4. No other rookie has played or contributed enough to warrant a line in a notes column. Pharoh Cooper, the fourth-round pick, was locked in as the No. 3 receiver until he injured his shoulder and missed the first four weeks. Hes getting worked in slowly. Higbee was also a fourth-round pick, and though he impressed throughout training camp, he has been targeted only six times. Higbee has taken a lot of snaps as a blocker, though. -- Alden GonzalezSan Francisco 49ersCornerback Rashard RobinsonApologies to defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who has been solid if unspectacular while leading Niners defensive linemen in snaps, but Robinson has been one of the teams most pleasant surprises. With Jimmie Ward out, Robinson has stepped into the starting lineup and looked the part of a guy who doesnt want to relinquish the job when Ward returns. According to Pro Football Focus, Robinson has been targeted eight times over the past two weeks, yielding just four receptions for 31 yards, with three pass breakups. When Ward returns, the 49ers would be wise to figure out how to keep Robinson, a fourth-round pick, on the field. -- Nick WagonerSeattle SeahawksNose tackle Jarran ReedAmong the Seahawks top six draft picks, five have missed at least one game because of injury. That includes Reed, who started the first three games but was sidelined in Week 4 with a hip injury. The second-round pick from Alabama has looked the part. He has been stout against the run and has showed some pass-rushing chops with a couple batted passes. Jarran Reeds a really good technique football player, coach Pete Carroll said. Had he not been, he would not have been able to stay with these guys. He had a great upbringing, great coaching and all that. So we just fit him in, and it made sense to him. The Seahawks have allowed 3.34 yards per catch, third-best in the NFL.
