Chopard launches new “forest green” sector-shaped dial, adding a touch of traditional flavor to LUC XPS The dark green, retro-style dial complements the high-end series.
Chopard has added a beautiful green sector dial to its LUC XPS collection. The LUC XPS Forest Green features a familiar 40mm Lucent steel case and Chopard’s COSC-certified in-house microrotor, adding a touch of vintage charm to the collection.
LUC is Chopard’s high-end collection, defined by in-house movements made by the brand’s manufacturer in Fleurier. The LUC XPS is powered by Chopard Caliber 96.12-L, a Seal of Geneva, chronometer-grade movement. It's beautiful and technically impressive, with Geneva stripes, a 65-hour power reserve, and a gold micro-rotor.
The forest green dial is a big update here, with the sector dial filling out the large 40mm diameter nicely. It has a green sunburst finish, broken up by rhodium-plated hour markers that match the hands. Lucent Steel is Chopard’s proprietary alloy made from 80% recycled materials, and the case measures 40mm x 7.2mm, which is both large and thin.
The dials in the existing LUC XPS range have always looked a little dated to me. At least, for a watch with a lot of free space, there's not a lot going on. The sector dial with its concentric rings, designed to help tell the time more accurately, solved this problem. The sector-shaped dial straddles the Art Deco and Bauhaus eras, utilizing the geometric patterns of the former to realize the latter’s “form follows function” ethos.
I'm not going to sit here and gush about simple dial changes to the existing LUC XPS like I did with last year's Copper Dial 1860, but it looks like a nice addition to the range.
