Here are three who have a good shot at getting a contract.CDTShareTweetShareShareThree tryout players who could make the Packers’ roster after rookie minicampJoe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsRookie minicamp means very different things to players in different situations. For players who were selected in the NFL Draft Clay Matthews Jersey , a roster spot is assured at least through training camp. These players will spend the next several days acclimating to the NFL and specifically to their new team’s way of doing business.A second group of players is made up of those who went undrafted but who agreed to contracts with their new teams. For these individuals, the weekend is time to pass a physical and sign their contract, followed by a chance to make an early impression on the coaching staff and stake a claim at a spot in competition for a roster spot come training camp. Group three is players who have been in the NFL for a year, but who did not play enough experience to count as an accrued season; these players are largely looking to get an extra few days of practice in before OTAs begin. Finally, there are tryout players. These individuals come to minicamp without a contract, looking to make a mark on the team and earn a spot on the 90-man roster. As of this weekend, the Green Bay Packers have two roster spots unaccounted for, so barring any additional cuts the team’s large group of tryout players will be fighting for that pair of slots. While the Packers typically provide a full roster to the media on the first day of rookie minicamp practice — which will be Friday — we already know the names of several players who will be attendance on a tryout basis. Here are three of those names who should be leading contenders to claim an open roster spot heading into the weekend.Deion Harris, DB, North DakotaA big defensive back at 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds, Harris could be a candidate to play either cornerback or safety. The latter might be the better fit for him given some speed concerns (4.64 40 at Pro Day), but his 3-cone time of 6.84 seconds suggests a change-of-direction ability that could be useful in the slot or covering twitchy tight ends. Harris recorded nine interceptions in college, including three pick-sixes in 2016, in addition to 38 total pass breakups. There are ball skills here to build on.Cole Tracy, K, LSUTracy spent one year with the Tigers in 2018 as a graduate transfer after kicking at Division II Assumption College to begin his college career. Over his final two seasons — 2017 at Assumption and 2018 at LSU — Tracy hit 56 of 62 field goal attempts and did not miss a PAT in 109 tries. That’s quite an impressive hit rate Blake Martinez Color Rush Jersey , and he seems to have a plenty strong leg to convert from 50-plus yards with regularity. If he does well this weekend, Tracy very well could earn a contract after minicamp and get an opportunity to compete with Mason Crosby this summer. If not, he’ll have another minicamp invite next week with the Saints to take another shot.Jamarius Way, WR, South AlabamaWay could be a nice fit for the Packers, given their recent preference towards larger wideouts. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he has a big frame and has used that to make plays in the Sun Belt conference over the past two years since South Alabama moved up to FBS. Way had more than 750 receiving yards in each of the past two seasons, averaging 15 yards per reception for his career. In a way, he’s reminiscent of Geronimo Allison, in that neither player worked out well but both had great college production to fall back on. Even if he’s not an exceptional athlete (4.63 40, 32.5” vert), that production is well worth a look this weekend. Acme Packing Company begins its countdown of the Packers’ 90-man roster with players 90-86." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesHorizontal - WhiteAcme Packing Companya Green Bay Packers communityLog In or Sign UpLog InSign UpFanpostsFanshotsSectionsPackersOddsAboutMastheadCommunity GuidelinesStubHubMoreAll 322 blogs on Horizontal - WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShare2019 Packers 90-man roster ranking, 90-86: Long-shot receivers and defensive backs vie for jobsTim Heitman-USA TODAY SportsWith veteran free agency essentially concluded and the 2019 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, Acme Packing Company will once again rank and break down the Green Bay Packers’ 90-man roster. These rankings represent a composite of the individual selections from several APC contributors. Today, we reveal players 90 through 86, a group comprised exclusively of undrafted free agents facing long odds of landing a spot on the Packers’ final roster or practice squad.90: Nydair Rouse https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Dave-Robinson-Jersey , CBAn undrafted prospect from West Chester University, Nydair Rouse had to battle his way onto the Packers’ 90-man roster as a tryout player. He apparently did enough during rookie minicamp to warrant a longer look. Rouse offers decent size for the cornerback position (5-foot-11, 188 pounds) and has experience playing in the box as an off-ball linebacker. Those traits profile as a potential contributor on special teams. On paper, the Packers look fairly deep at corner, especially with Tramon Williams expected to shift back from safety. The numbers at the position limit Rouse’s opportunities for exposure, at least in the eyes of APC’s voters.89: Larry Williams, OLUnlike many of the other rookies ranked at the back of the roster, Larry Williams comes from a major college program. Williams appeared on track to become a multiyear starter for Oklahoma State before health issues intervened. A high-ankle sprain cost him the final eight games of 2016 and and an undisclosed injury ended his followup campaign on the eve of conference play. Williams finally enjoyed a healthy season in 2018, starting every game during the regular season before opting out of his team’s bowl game as he prepared for the draft. As with Rouse, Williams faces a number crunch at his position. The Packers return four of their preferred starters and several top backups from a season ago, added multi-position blocker Billy Turner early in free agency, and selected Elgton Jenkins in the second round of the draft. Williams needs to climb quite far and avoid a repeat of his injury issues to have a fighting chance at a job with the team come September.88: Darrius Shepherd, WRAnother tryout player that secured a contract, Darrius Shepherd stands out from his competition at his wide receiver. While the Packers list every other wideouts at 6-foot-1 or taller, Shepherd stands at just 5-foot-11. That comes as little surprise given general manager Brian Gutekunst’s preference for length at the position. While height makes Shepherd an anomaly in Green Bay, it could work to his advantage if the Packers determine they need a more traditional slot receiver. He remains a long shot Aaron Jones Jersey , however.87: Kabion Ento, CBAs Kabion Ento adjusts to life in the NFL, he will also attempt to learn a new position. The 6-foot-1, 187-pound rookie played wide receiver during his time at Colorado, but his length and athleticism make him a more appealing prospect as a cornerback. The Packers have invested time in time in undrafted receiver-to-corner converts before, striking gold with Sam Shields and employing Herb Waters for several years. Ento will need to quickly adapt to his new position while proving his receiver skill set can lead to takeaways.86: Davis Koppenhaver, TEThough far from a football power, Duke produced two NFL tight ends this year. Daniel Helm, the better athlete and more productive pass catcher, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent. Meanwhile, the less physically gifted Davis Koppenhaver landed a deal with the Packers. While Koppenhaver caught nearly half as many passes as his counterpart, he proved far mroe prolific in the red zone. In 2018, he hauled in seven touchdowns, among the highest marks of any tight end in college football. If Koppenhaver can showcase his nose for the end zone and establish himself as a blocker, perhaps Green Bay will give him a longer look than expected.
