The Atlantic Coast Conference is off to one of its strongest starts in league history.Often maligned as the weakest of the Power Five leagues, the ACC has three teams ranked in the top 10 , tied with the Big Ten for the most. Its 17-5 record in non-conference games is the third-best start in ACC history. The conference, and two of its biggest stars, will take center stage in college football on Saturday at noon when second-ranked Florida State (2-0) and No. 10 Louisville (2-0, 1-0 ACC) meet in Kentucky. Its the first meeting of two top 10 teams from the ACC since Florida State and Miami in 2013.I think its critical, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said of what the showdown means to the ACC. It adds to ... credibility. The game feature Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois and Louisvilles dual-threat dynamo Lamar Jackson, who has put his name into early Heisman Trophy talk with 13 touchdowns in two record-setting games.Jackson was responsible for eight touchdowns by halftime in the Cardinals season-opening win against Charlotte, and followed that up by running for four scores and passing for another in a 62-28 victory at Syracuse . With 411 passing yards and 199 rushing yards against the Orange, he became just the second 400-150 player in FBS history.Francois, in his first start for the Seminoles, had 478 yards of offense in guiding Florida State to its largest come-from-behind victory in a 45-34 triumph against No. 19 Mississippi. In a league that has been recently viewed as Florida State, Clemson and everyone else, Fisher believes its time for people outside the ACC to take another look and realize other teams in the league can compete with everyone. The Seminoles beat Auburn for the 2013 national championship. Clemson made the title game last season, losing to Alabama, but Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson was a prominent name in early Heisman talk this year as well.It is great, great football in the ACC and Im glad that people are starting to see it, Fisher said. He said some of the perspective of ACC football is based on the leagues reputation that took hold long ago and is difficult to shake.I just think its something that over time has been ingrained and it will take time to get it out, he said.Seminoles center Alec Eberle grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia, at a time when Virginia Tech was the leagues marquee program. The Hokies won four championships in their first seven years in the league, from 2004-10, but numerous teams have shown improvement since.Over the last couple years, the ACC has come up so much in the football world, Eberle said. Florida State was up there and Virginia Tech, but now Louisville, UNC is getting real big, Duke has gotten better over the years. Its awesome knowing the ACC is competing at this higher level.Clemson (2011, 2015) and Florida State (2012-14) have combined to win the last five league championships, but in the past four seasons, Georgia Tech has reached the title game twice, Duke and North Carolina once each. Its definitely improving, definitely on the rise, Louisville wide receiver Jamari Staples said. Id say the ACC is one of the strongest. There are so many teams that can just pop out of nowhere. Wake Forest is 2-0. Who knows where theyll be at the end of the season? Its a hard conference to play in. Youve got to work hard to win.The 2-0 start for the Demon Deacons includes a 24-14 victory at Duke last weekend, their first road victory against any of the other three North Carolina schools in the conference since they won at Duke of October 2011.Third-year coach Dave Clawson cautioned against making too much of the victory, but is optimistic.I dont want to make it bigger than it was, he said. It was a big win for our program. ... But in terms of validating what we did, it is still a work in progress. It only means something if we can carry it through and keep improving and win more games.Sounds like a microcosm of the ACCs strong start.---AP sports writers Joe Reedy in Tallahassee, Florida, Gary Graves in Louisville, Kentucky, and Joedy McCreary in Winston-Salem contributed.---Online: The APs college football page: http://collegfootball.ap.org---Follow Hank on Twitter: www.twitter.com/hankkurzjr and his work can be found at: http://bigstory.ap.org/content/hank-kurz-jrEarl Campbell Titans Jersey .com) - The game was all punts and field goals before Kodi Whitfields catch. We just have to get better," Carroll said. On Friday, there will be a collective sigh of relief in Bangladesh. Their cricket team will take on England in the first ODI with talk surrounding on the importance of starting well in a three-match series, and how the home side are slight favourites.Mashrafe Mortaza has downplayed that tag, and said that Englands middle to lower-order poses a major challenge to his bowling attack who return to one-day cricket after a gap of ten months against Afghanistan last week. Tickets for the game have been sold quickly and while there will be unprecedented security in the Mirpur area, which means that every ticket-holder would have to walk at least half a kilometre, and much of what they carry wont be allowed inside, a sell-out crowd is a given. But the very thought of seeing England in Bangladesh in 2016 seemed improbable just three months ago. Outrage and numbness took over the country for weeks after the July 1 Holey Artisan attack that left 22 hostages and two policemen dead. Going to restaurants (those not as high-end as Holey Artisan) had developed as one of the rare past-times for those living in Dhaka but after the attack, people felt the unease of a terrifying ordeal waiting to happen.Thankfully, the situation slowly calmed down as the security agencies cracked open one terrorists den after another across the country. The unease will probably take a lot longer to go away - if it ever does entirely - but there would have been a huge hole in Bangladesh life had England not agreed to continue with their tour. Cricket means everything in Bangladesh - and sometimes more than that. When the Reg Dickason-led inspection team arrived in mid-August, everyone became nervous. The BCB arranged their discussions with the government agencies and the home ministry, but there was a sense of déjà vu. Only weeks before their October 2015 tour of Bangladesh, Australia had asked for a security visit in which the BCB also arranged these meetings in a very short space of time. Ultimately, they postponed the two Tests due to specific security threats. That bitter experience played a big part in how the BCB meticulously changed the security operations in their properties, particularly the Shere Bangla Natioonal Stadium in Mirpur.dddddddddddd Once those were put in place, and the government gave their detailed security blueprint to the England delegates, the nation waited with bated breath.Their prayers were answered on August 25 when Andrew Strauss generously put a lot of faith in Bangladesh. There was muted celebration because it was still more than a month out from the actual arrival date. Even the day before the first ODI, there are few who are still in disbelief. The level of security on offer, which has been highlighted by the cordon around the England team from the moment they landed, was on full show during Thursday when the security forces had a trial run with commandos and special forces sweeping the stadium, practising a drill to evacuate players. It was a reminder of how much is at stake. No stone has been left unturned. In July and August, everyone in Bangladesh understood that if England didnt think it was safe for them to play cricket in Dhaka and Chittagong, they had their reasons. But when they decided to tour, it felt that they were helping another nation out by offering competition.Sports-lovers would know best the magnitude of such a gesture.Historically, too, England have always been a friend to Bangladesh cricket. It was the English journalist Robin Marlar whose article Whither Bangladesh? gave international attention to the newly independent nation. Ten months later, the MCC became the first international team to tour Bangladesh, which set the wheel in motion for them to take part in the 1979 ICC Trophy. The MCC toured several times afterwards, and each time they were received with much warmth.Bangladesh also doesnt forget quickly that they have been accorded two tours to England, in 2005 and 2010. Australia have hosted Bangladesh just the once while India will finally host their first Bangladesh Test next year. Now that England are touring when Bangladesh were in the brink of turning into a pariah cricket nation, there is much significance to this series. In the choppy waters of crickets politics, such a gesture is a welcome change. ' ' '
